| How would you describe a person who is homophobic? One who perpetrates emotional, spiritual, and even physical violence. Also people who do not understand GLBT people in that they are unsupportive of their basic rights How would you describe tolerance? Not true acceptance. Tolerance means to me the concept of acknowledging the existence of someone/something but not necessarily interested in engaging or integrating them into my life or consciousness. Big religious turn off Additional comments.... Have you had any hurtful experiences through the Christian church? Catholic pastor in my childhood continually condemning gay people. Catholic pastor instructed my parents to reject me for coming out (they were supportive). The protestors in these weekend events. Churches /denominations that actively engage in tryng to remove restrict or prevent basic civil rights for us. The Catholic church hurt our financial security when they pressured my husband to resign from his music director position. Have you found the Christian church helpful to you? MCC church of the spirit - attended many years before I moved to Baltimore. Very helpful to me in building a spiritual life, support, love - they married my husband and me. United church of Christ - always very friendly to us. Is there anything you would like to say to the church? To Catholic Church: focus on ministry and love not active condemnation spiritual murder and hypocrisy. To other churches that condemn GLBT people and fight against civil rights (job housing safety) I doubt highly that the Jesus you claim to be like would put so much energy in creating pain and death for other human beings. Get fricking over yourselves and start a ministry that helps, loves, and let all people live freely and joyfully. |
